3 Star Long Weekend in Krakow
This weekend allows time for both golf and exploration in one of Poland’s most beguiling cities. The southern Polish city of Krakow is arguably the most intriguing in Poland. As well as two or three rounds of golf, there is time to see the major architectural and historical sites on a half day tour, and to visit a couple of sights outside the city centre. Krakow is a city that has in some ways changed much in recent years, and yet in other ways has remained pretty much unchanged. Although possessed of a vibrant nightlife, it still retains many sights redolent of its turbulent history – a classic combination of the old and the new.
Day by Day itinerary
Day 1.
Arrive Krakow. Our golf weekend in Krakow starts as we check in at our hotel, anytime after mid-day. Once settled in, the rest of the first day and evening is then left free for us to explore. Most of the interesting places to see in Krakow are located in, or close to, the Old Town, so it’s easy to explore the city on foot. An obvious landmark is Wawel Hill, with the Royal Castle and the Cathedral; to the north of the hill is the Old Town; to the south of the hill is Kazimierz, with the Jewish quarter. The market square, at the heart of the Old Town, is a good place to head for initially, to get your bearings. After dinner the Old Town comes alive until the early hours of the morning
Day 2.
In Krakow. Morning city tour. Afternoon golf. After breakfast, time to join a morning sight-seeing tour of the city. We will visit the Market Square, St Mary’s Church, Wawel Cathedral and the Castle. In the afternoon a tee-off time has been reserved at the Krakow Valley Golf and Country Club, for our first round of golf. In the evening, time to head back to the Old Town, where, close by are a myriad collection of cafes, bars and restaurants.
Day 3.
In Krakow. Morning golf. Afternoon optional visit to Wieliczka Salt mine. After breakfast, time to tee-off at our second course, the Royal Krakow, for a morning round. After lunch the rest of the day is at leisure. There is the option of wandering through the Old Town and watching the world go by at one of the local cafes. Or there is the chance to join an optional tour to the Wieliczka Salt mine, just outside town First opened some 700 years ago, the mine is still in use today, and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. During our visit you will see underground lakes, chambers, even buildings – an amazing afternoon. The evening is free to explore more of the Old Town.
Day 4.
Tour ends. After breakfast our tour ends, and it’s time to head for the airport and the flight home. But if you have arranged a late
flight, then there is time for a wander through the Old Town and perhaps a little last-minute shopping, before it’s time to go home.
